Robert Mitchell served in Korea (1952-53) with the 1st Marine Division, as an Infantry Squad Leader in a Rifle Company. He is a Legacy Board member and serves as the Treasurer. He retired from the Shell Oil Company after more than 31 years of service and held various supervisory and management positions in marketing, corporate purchasing, administration, and information and computer services.
In addition to being active in his community, having worked with young people through Junior Achievement and the Back to School prep for the GED exam, he also spent 17 years as a volunteer for the Sunshine Kids (children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses). He has been a Cub Master, Little League coach, and Marching Band Booster Club president. He has visited a number of Houston schools, plus civic groups, to tell the story of the Korean War, and he is President of his church's Seniors Club.
He currently resides in Houston, Texas with his wife of 59 years.
