My father served as a B-29 pilot during the final six months of the Korean War. During his lifetime, he spoke little of his experience in the War. However, I recently received letters that my father wrote home to the family. There is no question as to the impact the war had on my father. He obviously struggled with thoughts of why he survived, while other good men failed to return from the War. His letters mention the loss of one of his classmates at the Greenville Air Force Base – Cadet Class 52-D, Peter M. Darakis who remains missing in action to this day.
